Category 1: Countries That Must Apply for eVisa Before Travel
Category 1 nationals cannot obtain a visa on arrival. You must apply for an eVisa online at evisa.gov.mw and receive approval before boarding your flight. Airlines may deny boarding if you do not have a valid eVisa approval letter.

Category 2: Countries Eligible for Visa on Arrival
Category 2 nationals can obtain a visa on arrival at Malawi’s designated ports of entry, including Lilongwe International Airport (LLW) and Chileka International Airport (BLZ). However, applying for an eVisa in advance is still recommended to avoid long queues at immigration.
As of February 2026, Category 2 nationals are explicitly permitted to board flights to Malawi without a pre-arranged visa. You will complete the application and pay the fee at the airport upon landing.

- Valid passport with at least 6 months validity from your date of arrival and at least 1 blank page
- Passport scan (clear scan, not a camera photo)
- Recent passport-sized photo
- Return or onward flight ticket
- Proof of accommodation (hotel booking or invitation letter)
- Yellow fever certificate if arriving from or transiting through a yellow fever endemic country
- Completed Traveller Health Check form at poe.health.gov.mw/self-screen
